- The year was 1993. It was September and the school year had just started. Unless you were a pre-teener, chances are you were finishing high school or starting college (if you were friends with us). You were disenfranchised, angry, frustrated; the culture of complaint sweeping the zeitgeist was hitting your sweet spot and you were   pissed . Stoned, living in your parents basement or the shithole you were renting in your first year, you channeled your angst through smoking cheap weed resin and blaring  Nirvana ‘s latest album,  In Utero , which had hit stores just a few short days earlier. Thinking to yourself, “God, these  Albini  (produced) drums are fucking  sick ,” you passed the time thumbing through the liner notes trying to make sense of the mouthful-of-marbles lyrics to “ Radio Friendly Unit Shifter ” which you played on repeat. - Cranking up “Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge on Seattle” to switch it up and being awed by the bass and the wickedly abrasive sounds, you

- The   Nirvana   singer, guitarist and songwriter died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in April of 1994 at the age of 27. They’re more just stories from TV or books or movies or friends. But definitely the emotion and feeling is from me.” – Rolling Stone ,   1992

The recording session took place shortly after Nirvana wrapped their 1989  Bleach  tour. Cobain spent days at a time chilling with Lanegan in Olympia, Washington, and listening to old blues records

The story behind Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit video

Imagen
- There are few music videos that have helped out the artist and their song more so than Nirvana who were jet-propelled into stardom by the video for ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’.   On constant rotation   during pretty much all the years MTV actually showed music videos, the clip was the distillation of America’s growing grunge movement and it left Nirvana paddling in the mainstream. - Then, it offered an exciting and captivating watch, today, the video acts as a meta moment for Generation X. Though invigorated by the independence of anti-establishment rhetoric, underpinned by the sneering expectations of a modernising world and buzzing with authenticity, ultimately the video is now just another reminder of the commercialisation that tore the scene limb from limb. Shot at Culver City Studios on August 17th, 1991, the video saw the band performing in a disused gym while the surrounding student body becomes more and more enraged before finally bursting into a fit of punitive destructio
